Maintain Profitability While Remaining Competitive
For Northern Hardwoods Sawmill, a major challenge has always been to maintain profitability while remaining competitive. An important element in achieving this is through stringent cost controls. And, according to Richard Murley, a thirty year veteran with the company, the Rockit Power Blade has helped Northern Hardwoods do just that, as they harvest three million board feet of lumber annually from forests in the Michigan Upper Peninsula.
The Rockit Power Blade has saved our company close to $6,000 this past year, in road material alone: We used approximately 4,300 cubic yards of trucked-in stone, at $13.50 per yard, for a total cost of $58,000. I usually figure on losing about ten percent of this material in the ditches and swales along the road edge, but with the Rockit blade, I have very little material loss. The wings keep the material up on the grade while the operator spreads the stone. Access roads are not capital investments like they were in years past, so it is important that we keep costs as low as possible.
