The Right Tool Can Make a Big Difference
In the beautiful forests of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, logging is an important industry, and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) helps keep them that way. SFI encourages loggers to leave the forest as undisturbed as possible, so the right tools and equipment can make a big difference. That's why the Rockit Power Blade is so important to UP forester Mark Wiitanen, who uses it to move snow in the winter and to shape and build logging roads during summer.
I find that when using the wings in the woods, I can control material better and carry it farther. It is especially nice for moving snow: The blade widens the tractor a little, so you're not getting snow falling back into your tracks and running gear. Usually I burn holes in my pads to keep snow and ice from building up, but now I can keep the Rockit blade out wide enough so I don't have that problem.
In summer, our main concern is crowning the road up and getting the ditches opened. By pivoting the wing of the Rockit blade forward, you can clean them out with no spoil going back into the ditches. Because we are doing everything by SFI, we've got to try to keep things looking good. And that blade is outstanding for doing ditch work and crowning.
